Hazarat Ali’s Birthday, let us try and know somethings about his life and why Hazarat Ali is counted amongst one of the best idols.

A Brief About Hazarat Ali:

Cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam and 4th of the rightly guided caliphs. Hazarat Ali is the 1st four successors of Muhammad.

Within Islamic tradition Hazarat Ali is known by a number of titles, some are given because of his personal qualities and others derived from his life’s episodes. Abu al-Hasan, Murtada (One who is chosen and Contented), Asad Allied (Lion of God), Haydar (Lion) and many more names.

Hazarat Ali’s life as recorded especially in Sunni and Shi’ I texts, has been divided into various periods that can be understood by looking at various events.

Son of Abu Talib and his wife Fatimah bin Asad, Ali was born on the 13th day of the lunar month of Rajab, some 600 years ago in Mecca.

Abu Talib became Hazarat Ali’s guardian when his father died and Fatimah bin Asad acted as the Prophet’s mother his biological moeht dies. When Hazarat Ali was 5 years old, his father became impoverished, and Ali was taken in and raised by Muhammad and his wife Khadijah.

By 10, Hazarat Ali became the second person after Khadijah to accept Islam. Then later, along with Zayd ibn Haritha, who was like a son the Prophet Abu Bakr, a respected member of the ruling Quraysh tribe of Mecca, he helped form the nucleus of the earliest Meccan Islamic community.

Both Sunni and Shi’ I sources confirm that occurrence in 622 of the most important episode of Hazarat Ali’s stint.

Hazarat Ali was 22/23 years old when he migrated to Medina. Shortly after his arrival, the Prophet told Ali that he had been ordered by God to give his daughter Fatimah to Hazarat Ali in marriage. The union affected the entire history of Islam.

Hazarat Ali did not marry any other woman till the time Fatimah was alive, and his marriage to her possesses a special spiritual significance for all Muslims because it is seen as the marriage between the greatest saintly figures surrounding the Prophet.

Hazarat Ali was deeply involved in the military defense of the Islamic community. Ali is said to participate in most of the battles and he was commander at the battles of Fadak in 628 and Al-Yaman in 632.

Hazarat Ali also had a special role in protecting Muhammad at the battles of Uhu in 625 and Hunyan in 630. He fought the leading warrior of Quraysh, Talhah ibn Abi Talhah, who boasted that he would defeat any Muslim sent again him. When Talhah himself was defeated, he pleaded for mercy from Hazarat Ali saying “May God illuminate his face with nobility.”

As Islam began to spread through Arabia, Hazarat Ali helped to establish a new Islamic order. He was instructed to write the Hudaybiyyah agreement – a peace treaty between the Prophet and the Quraysh in 628.

When Muhammad finally conquered Mecca in 630, he asked Hazarat Ali to guarantee that the conquest would be bloodless, that was accomplished as a result of the surrender of the Meccans and Muhammad’s forbidding the victorious Muslims from taking revenge on the Meccans, a command that Hazarat Ali ensured was obeyed completely.

Post-death of Umar in 644, Hazarat Ali was considered for the caliphate along with 5 other members of the community. One of them was Abd al-Rahman ibn but asked that he be trusted with choosing the next caliph.

The period of the caliphate of Hazarat Ali from 656 until his death in 661 was the loudest one. Many members of the Quraysh turned against Hazarat Ali because he defended the rights of Hashimites – a clan of the Quraysh to which Muhammad belonged.

Hazarat Ali assembled an army in Kufa, which became his capital and met the tables in 656 at the Battle of the Camel. Although a peaceful settlement had nearly been reached before the fighting started, extremists on the sides forced the battle in which Hazarat Ali was once again victorious.

Hazarat Ali’s authorities were weekend as time went by. A number of Muslims met in Adruh in 659 with the thought of deposing both Hazarat Ali and Mu aliyah and appointing as caliph Abd Allah – son of Umar, but they did not reach a final decision.
