Janmashtami is a festival celebrated in praise of the birth of the divine Lord Krishna. According to Hindu mythological and sacred sources, Janmashtami is the day of the full moon which overlaps with August/September of the Gregorian calendar when Lord Krishna was born, Krishna is revered as one of the Avatar of Vishnu.
Going by Hindu sacred sources Bhagwat Gita and Mahabharat Lord Krishna was a divine figure born on the night of Kartik Purnima, Hindu calendar to Devaki and Nand, Before his birth a prophecy was made that that Lord Krishna or the 8th son of Devaki will kill the King Kans so in order, to a very this prediction evil Kans sentenced to exile to his sister Devaki and her husband Nand and began killing her children however during the time of 8th birth, it was a different story.
On the time of the 8th birth of Devaki and Nand, lord Vishnu the one of Dashavathar himself came from heaven in form of a baby which was followed by an earthquake and storm which break through the exile open and allowed Nand to take Krishna, newborn child safely way from Mathura to a safe place, in due course Nand carried little Sri Krishna in a basket to Vrindavan where he was raised by his foster parents and Mata Yashoda.
Janmashtami is a festival celebrated not just by Hindus but people of different faiths throughout the world with fervor in the glory of Lord Krishna.
