The birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter of the country, Lala Lajpat Rai, is celebrated on this day i.e. 28 January. On 28 January 1865 Lala Lajpat Rai was born in the Monga district of Punjab. He is also known as Punjab Kesari i.e. Lion of Punjab. 

He devoted his whole life to trying to make Indian nationalism stand firmly against the British government. Lajpat Rai did many such historical works in his life, due to which the countrymen still remember him with great respect.

Description Lala Lajpat Rai was an Indian independence activist. He played an important role in the Indian independence movement. He was known as Punjab Kesari.
Death Anniversary Lala Ji was hit on the head by a British officer. He died on 17 November 1928 in Lahore, Pakistan due to a head injury.

History of Lala Lajpat Rai

Born on January 28, 1865, in Moga, Punjab in a simple family, Lala Lajpat Rai’s father Lala Radhakrishna was a teacher. It also affected Lajpat Rai. From his early days, Lajpat was a brilliant student and after completing his schooling he turned to law. 

Lajpat became an excellent lawyer and practiced for some time, but soon his mind got bored with this job. And resentment arose in his mind towards the judicial system of the British.

To run his livelihood, Lajpat innovated banking. Banks were not much popular in India till that time, but they took it as a challenge and established Lakshmi Insurance Company and Punjab National Bank.

There was resentment in his mind towards the judicial system of the British. And he continued to oppose the British through Congress. Due to his hot nature, he was awarded the title of Punjab Kesari. 

He was one of the first leaders after Bal Gangadhar Tilak to demand Purna Swaraj. Lajpat emerged as the most popular leader in Punjab.

Along with being a freedom fighter, Lala Ji was also inclined towards the rapidly spreading Arya Samaj movement in India. As a result, he soon took up the task of taking the movement forward with Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati. 

The Arya Samaj used to attack the evils and religious superstitions prevalent in Indian Hindu society and called for a return to the Vedas.

This was a time when Arya Samaj Lists were considered anti-religion, but Lala Ji did not care at all about it. Soon Arya Samaj became popular in Punjab with his efforts. 

He did other important work in the field of Indian education. Till now only traditional education dominated in India. In which the medium of instruction was Urdu and Sanskrit.

Contribution of Lala Lajpat Rai

Lalaji founded a school named Tilak Political Science School in Lahore. Started a social work organization called Log Sevak Sangh. In 1925, Lalaji saw the place of president of the movement of Hindu Mahasabha in Kolkata. 

Worked as editor of an Urdu daily called Vande Mataram. He was a great freedom fighter, a great patriot, and a social reformer. He will always be remembered for his work and his sacrifice.

His last words proved to be true During the protest against the Simon Commission, he was badly beaten with sticks on his body. He had said that the sticks struck on his body would prove to be the last nail in the coffin for the British Raj in India.

A month after his death, on 17 December 1928, in retaliation for his death, British police officer Saunders was shot dead. After that, the voice against the British in India became louder.
